5 : 4 10th Old Boys

Last Saturday the thirds were at home in a
league match against 10th Old
Boys. Again the team had to call on players
from the under 15’s to
strengthen the squad. The thirds soon settled
into their normal pattern of
play and after 10 minutes were awarded a penalty
kick, when Adam Welsh was
upended in the box. Stevie Hanna usually “Mr
Cool” missed from the spot and
he has now been sacked as penalty taker. Five
minutes later the thirds found
themselves one down, after Gary Craigan handled
in the box and the 10th
scored from the penalty. Comber then equalised,
again Welsh was fouled but
Welsh himself took the penalty and scored. Welsh
then put Comber into the
lead after good work from Gary Bennett. Sloppy
defending again saw the 10th
make it 2-2 but Ryan Oliver put Comber in front
just before halftime. In the
second half, Comber's class began to tell and
Hanna made it four after 10
minutes. Welsh completed his hat-trick and Comber
were cruising with 20
minutes to go. One minute of madness saw the
10th Old Boys score two quick
goals and Comber looked as if they were going
to snatch defeat from the jaws
of victory. Yes it was squeaky bum time but
Comber held on for a well
deserved win.
