Comber Rec II's
2 : 2 Meadowbank
League
1st September 2007
To say that the 3rds were down
to the bare bones on saturday would be a vast
under-statement, but such is the quality of
players in the youth section
that Comber were able to call up three of them
for their senior debut.
Justin Childs and Ryan Irwin both had to start
and Adam Beattie was on the
bench. Saturday's opposition were Meadowbank
from Donaghadee who were just
promoted last season.
It took Comber several mins to settle and the
young players looked nervous
but soon they were playing like seasoned veterans.
Comber had to make 10
changes from tuesday's match so this team would
be under pressure from the
word go, but the boys were fantastic and came
away with a 2-2 draw. Gary
Bennett put the Rec 1 up 15 mins before half
time a lead that they held to
the interval.
In the second half the Rec missed
2 or 3 really good chances
to put the match to bed, Danny Gabbey guilty
of missing a sitter and this
nearly came back to haunt them when M'bank went
a goal in front. But the
never say die attitude was rewarded when Shane
Andrews rifled home from the
edge of the box with 5 mins remaining. Comber
should have won it when Adam
Beattie won the ball in the box, but his effort
was well saved. All in all a
fine all round performance
