Lewis Dempster, now General Manager at the Rec., has been twice to the Final of the Border Cup as a player - and picked up a winner's medal each time. Lewis Dempster, who played for the Rec in both 1956 and 1957 when the Division 2A side pulled off major surprises against first Chimney Corner and then Division I Champions Short Brothers & Harland, can recall both occasions with pride and clarity. "Comber were only into their third season in the Amateur League when the Final with Chimney Comer came along:' reminisces Lewis. "Those two victories certainly put the Rec into the spotlight."
