East Antrim Youth League
Comber Rec
1 - 7 Southcity
Parkway
20 October 2006
With four regulars missing thought injury including
influential midfielder Alex Malcolm-Bourne and
goalkeeper Andrew Topping this was always going
to be a difficult match against a high flying
Southcity side. The deadlock was broken on fifteen
minutes when a long pass out of defence by Justin
Childs found Stuart Hanna on the right wing;
his cross was tapped over the line by Dean Wylie.
As it turned out this was the only highlight
for the Comber lads. Five minutes later and
it was 1-1. A long range effort beating the
stranded Gareth Crawford in the home goals.
The self destruct button was pressed five minutes
from the break, three soft goals and it was
game set and match.
The lads to their credit pressed hard in the
second half, but as they chased the game they
got caught on a further three occasions to make
this a bad day. This was not as bad a performance
as the score line suggests, a good opening 30
minutes was evidence that this squad is capable
of maintaining its league challenge. A special
mention to Man of the Match Andrew Gibson who
joined the squad from last seasons under 13's.
Andrew has been without a doubt the most consistent
player this season, rarely putting a foot wrong
in the opening series of matches.
