Triangle 5 - 6 Comber Rec
Valley (5)
06 October 2006
The Rec travelled to Valley Park for a top
of the table clash against Coleraine outfit
Triangle. Both teams started brightly, playing
some neat attacking football. Triangle broke
the stalemate when a clearance from Andrew Topping
in the Comber goals was returned from all of
25 yards into an empty net. Comber stuck to
their game plan and were unlucky not to draw
level on a number of occasions. However, it
was Triangle who struck again, for all the good
football on show it was a long punt up the pitch
that caught the Rec defence out.
Going into the second-half 2-0 down Comber
went straight on the offensive, reducing the
deficit after only five minutes. A sweetly struck
free kick from the impressive Alex Malcolm-Bourne
left the Triangle keeper no chance. Amazingly
a minute later it was all level. A great cross
from man-of-the-match Stuart Hanna was finished
at the back post by Conor Pinnons. It was now
all Comber and on twenty minutes midfielder
Ryan Irwin put them into the lead, again good
work from Hanna setting up the opportunity.
Centre-forward Chris Curran-Cochrane opened
up a two goal cushion when he finished from
a Matthew Crooks through ball. To their credit
Triangle continued to play some good football
and where rewarded when they hit back to make
it 4-3. However, a beautiful left foot strike
from Pinnons from just inside the box restored
the 2 goal advantage. The match looked over
when a mazy run from the industrious Irwin increased
the lead to 6-3. With only five minutes remaining
the Rec lads switched off and almost threw the
match. Triangle scored twice in the last minute
to bring the final score to 6-5.
This, the first ever win against a Triangle
side maintains the lads unbeaten start to the
season.
