Under 15's Match Report

East Antrim Youth League - KO Cup
Comber Rec 6 - 2
Carnlough
Valley 6
1st March 2008

The opening goal of this cup-tie came on six minutes from an unexpected source; the Carnlough central defender heading into his own goal. Playing with a strong wind Comber pressed for long periods without much success in front of goal. Most of the good work came from the impressive Matthew Crooks.  On twenty-nine minutes the lead was doubled when Justin Childs finished from five yards. Before the break Childs headed in from close range, colliding heavily with the post in the process.

Carnlough caught the Rec defence cold after the restart when they brought the score to 3-1. Before any thought of a Carnlough  comeback  Ryan Irwin regained the two goal advantage,  slotting home against the oncoming keeper. A controversial Rec fifth arrived when following a free kick the ball was forced in by a combination of Childs and Irwin, both players claiming the goal! This was only resolved when the suspended Alex Malcolm-Bourne (top goal scorer contender) confirmed that Childs definitely got the crucial touch!!!!

Unlucky on a number of occasions Chris Curran-Cochrane got on the score sheet, a fine pass from sub Andrew Montgomery sending him through on goal. The lads can now look forward to the next round where they will face the recently crowned league champions Larne Youth.
