East Antrim Youth League
Templepatrick
3 - 4 Comber Rec
Six Mile Water
9th February 2008
A difficult trip to Ballyclare to face Templepatrick
was made more challenging with Comber missing
a couple of regulars. With a number of positional
changes the Rec went straight on the attack,
Chris Curran-Cochrane going close. On seventeen
minutes Comber took a deserved lead, a good
ball from Alex Malcolm-Bourne was driven in
by Curran-Cochrane. Within a minute Templepatrick
were level, a fine finish giving Andrew Topping
in the Rec goal no chance. Comber fell behind
when a shot from a tight angle eluded the Rec
defense. With five minutes of the first- half
remaining Malcolm-Bourne set up an easy finish
for Curran-Cochrane to level the scoring at
2-2.
A fiercely competitive second half sprung to
life when Malcolm-Bourne struck a twenty-five
yard free kick into the top corner of the net
to regain the lead. Two minutes from time and
Templepatrick levelled again, from a tight angle.
Not to be outdone, Comber hit back to secure
a deserved win when man-of-the-match Malcolm-Bourne
fired home with a fierce low drive, going in
of the Templepatrick keeper.
As well as the two goal scorers playing well
for Comber; goalkeeper Topping, Beattie, Finney,
Gibson and Pinnons all put in fine performances.
A good game of football, which had the potential
to boil over, however, an excellent refereeing
performance from the official in charge kept
things in order.
