East Antrim Youth League
Comber
Rec 2 - 5 Larne
Youth
Valley
19th January 2008
Playing their first match of the New Year Comber
faced an unbeaten Larne Youth side. With the
first league encounter between the two teams
ending in a heavy defeat for the Rec lads, everyone
in the squad knew they had something to prove.
On a heavy pitch Comber took the game to Larne
and could have been a goal to the good within
the first five minutes, Chris Curran-Cochrane
going close. Larne always looked dangerous going
forward, taking the lead on 15 minutes. Despite
the best efforts of Comber's central defenders
Larne went two up. A terrific move resulted
with their talented center forward hammering
home. Despite this setback Comber continued
to attack with some style and were rewarded
when a Connor Pinons corner was headed in at
the near post by the impressive Malcolm-Bourne.
Comber suffered a major setback when they lost
the influential Malcolm-Bourne to injury, however,
they did get a deserved equaliser five minutes
from the break, Pinnons hitting the ball from
all of thirty yards into the roof of the net.
The early stages of the second half was a tight
contest, Comber's back four led superbly by
man of the match Lee Brown. With good chances
at both ends beings wasted it looked like a
draw was on the cards, however, in the final
quarter Larne scored to regain the lead. Two
quick Larne goals followed to secure victory.
A tremendous game of football deservedly won
by a fine Larne side, however, everyone wearing
a Rec top can be proud of their performance
today.
