Under 13s Match Report Comber had a very poor and slow start to this league fixture, finding themselves a goal down very early in the match. Comber looked off the pace and couldn’t cope with the good football being played by the visitors. This led to a second goal, as Comber failed to challenge the Castleview players in attack. Comber were stuck in their own half for most the first period and Castleview were completely in control, playing some very good 1 touch football at times. Comber did come close a couple of times, Connor Black thought he had scored only to see the Castleview left back clear off the line after a powerful strike from the edge of the box following a Comber corner. This did lift Combers spirits slightly and they started to hold onto the ball much better especially down the left wing with Lex Walker. But sloppy defensive play from Comber saw them go a further 2 goals behind before the half time break. Half Time Comber 0 – Castleview 4 After a very disappointing 1st half Combers players began the 2nd period much better. They were starting to keep possession for longer and the defence looked strong and were quickly dealing with any threat to the Comber teams goal. Striker Elliot Wilson was introduced to the game early in the 2nd half and made an immediate impact, running at the Castleview defence and putting the visitors defence under pressure. Comber looked very dangerous in attack now, especially on the wings as Sam Manley and Lex Walker were linking up very well with Ben and Elliot in the attack. This promising play paid off as Sam Manley beat his marker on the right wing and delivered a fine cross which found Elliot in the box who finished well for Combers 1st goal. Shortly after the goal Comber were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Castleview box. Captain Connor Black fancied his chances and went for goal, the free kick was struck very well and took a deflection off a defender and the ball found the back of the net. This lifted the home sides’ spirits even more and now looked to be in control of the play. Castleview were being kept in their own half now as Comber went on attack after attack. Ben Davidson almost got a 3rd for Comber, his effort beat the keeper but sadly not the post. Comber really looked like they could go on and get something out of the game but sadly their efforts came too late in the game and the game ended 4 – 2. Man of the Match for Comber was Sam Manley.
