Under 13s Match Report

Comber Rec 1 Carrick Rangers 6

This was a heavy defeat for the under 13’s at the Henry Jones on Saturday.  Comber were up against 2nd place Carrick Rangers and knew they had a tough test ahead of them.  Comber started the better team and were knocking the ball about very well and created some chances.  Comber could have been 2 up in the first 10 minutes of the half but Carricks goal keeper made some superb saves from close range.   Eventually he was beaten to make it 1 – 0 Comber after Adam Childs slotted in from close range.  This was a well deserved goal after Comber had worked very hard and played some very nice football through Johnny Burgess and Childs in the midfield.
The lead was short lived though as Carrick won a corner a few minutes later.  A good cross was delivered and found an unchallenged Carrick player who managed to head the ball through the legs of Combers keeper.  Comber again went on and tested the Carrick goal keeper who again denied well from Harvey Whiteside and Adam Childs. Carrick managed to go further ahead as they scored their second of the match, the carrick forward beat 2 defenders easily on the edge of the box and found the top corner.

HALF TIME COMBER 1 CARRICK 2

After playing some nice football in the 1st half and creating several chances, the home side came out like a different team. Comber’s fluent passing had stopped and as a result they created very few chances to score during 2nd half.  Carrick on the other hand were now playing good 1 touch football and deservedly their lead increased.  Carrick notched up 4 goals in the 2nd period to which Comber had no reply.

This was a similar story to Combers previous game against Barn, failing to take their chances early in the game and being punished for it.  Credit to Carrick who showed a good attitude throughout the game and played very well.  Referee awarded Johnny Burgess Combers Man of Match.

A very big improvement from every member of the team will be needed for the next fixture against Waveny Youth.
