Under 13s Match Report

COMBER VS ANTRIM ROVERS

Comber took maximum points again this week in the league against Antrim Rovers. Comber started the game with the same line up that beat Barn the previous week and almost immediately looked dangerous going forward. Very early in the game Comber went 1 up. Adam Childs opening the scoring with a very well taken goal from the edge of the box, taking a nice touch to control then sending the ball into the bottom corner. Soon after Comber got their 2nd of the half, this time George Mcbride found the net after getting himself in a great position for a cross from the left to head passed the Antrim keeper. Rovers were struggling to get near Combers box with the back four of Jacob, Conor, Karl and Bradley playing very well to cut out any problems. Comber now looked like scoring on every attack with Adam and Johnny setting most attacks up from midfield. Elliot Wilson scored just before the half time break to give Comber a 3 goal advantage going into the break.

HALF TIME COMBER 3 ANTRIM 0

Both Combers substitutes Gatis Kalkerts and Ben Davidson came on for the start of the 2nd half in place of Jacob Hamilton and Sam Manley. Comber started strongly again and were knocking the ball about very well all over the pitch with some great one touch passing. A 4th goal was just a matter of time now and eventually Comber got it, this time Harvey Whiteside scoring his 3rd in 2 games with a very good long range strike which flew into the roof of the net. Credit to Antrim Rovers who even at 4 nil down kept trying to get a goal back but Karl and Conor were clearing any threat that Rovers posed. Adam Childs got Combers 5th goal of the game and Elliot Wilson got another 2 later in the second half to complete his hat-trick which was very well deserved having worked very hard upfront for the duration of the game. Final score Comber 7 Antrim Rovers 0.

Well done to all the boys, this was a brilliant performance and they also earned their first clean sheet of the League competition this season. The referee awarded Combers Karl Johnson man of the match; Karl defended excellently throughout the game and was first to every ball to deny Rovers any real chance on goal. Special mention also to Johnny Burgess who covered some amount of ground, surging forward from midfield on the attack and also getting back to defend when needed.
