Under 13s Match Report

Barn Utd vs Comber Rec

After Combers recent disappointment mid-week in the Plate and KO Cup the under 13s were back in League action away to Barn on Saturday. The away team could have been 1 or 2 up after only a few minutes with chances falling to George McBride and Harvey Whiteside but both were unlucky not to find the net. It was Barn who went ahead though as poor defensive play from Comber allowed a Barn forward a free shot on goal, Beattie got down to it and thought he had kept it out but the referee awarded the goal. Again Comber had chances to get back in the game but Barns goalkeeper denied the Comber forwards on several occasions. Barn then went 2 ahead, this time from a corner kick. Comber defended the initial cross but as the ball was played back into the danger area the defence failed to close down Barns left winger and he scored with a shot from 12 yards.

With not long left in the half Comber finally got themselves their first goal. The goal coming from Harvey Whiteside whose corner kick flew over everyone in the box and ended up in the net. This got Comber fired up again and were now looking very dangerous as they attacked with some great play through the midfield of Johnny Burgess and Adam Childs. This good play led to Comber grabbing their second which was again scored by Harvey Whiteside, a well taken effort from just inside the Barn box. But almost straight from the resulting Barn kick off the home team scored a 3rd with only a minute of the first half left.

HALF TIME 3 – 2

Comber came out in the second half determined to get something out of the game and immediately were causing Barn problems with Elliot Wilson and George McBride working very hard upfront. Combers back four were also playing much better this half and weren’t letting much passed them. Mid-way through the half Combers pressure paid off as Elliot Wilson got Combers 3rd goal to level the score. Thomas Beattie ensured Barn didn’t get back in front with some great saves from close range and some important catches from dangerous looking crosses. Late in the 2nd half Adam Childs was tripped inside the Barn box and the referee awarded Comber a penalty. Conor Black stepped up and blasted the ball into the roof of the net leaving the keeper no chance and putting Comber 4 – 3 up. Barn tried to get level again but Comber were too strong and closed down any threat at the back. Final score Barn 3 Comber 4. A very good win for Comber and well done to every player who showed a great attitude after going 2 down early in the game to come back and get 3 points.

Man of The Match was Combers Elliot Wilson who worked tirelessly upfront front for the duration of the game and got on the scoresheet awell.
