East Antrim Youth League
Carnmoney Colts 0 : 5 Comber
Three Mile Water
Saturday 20th October 2007
A clash of colours delayed the start of this
game between mid table Carnmoney and a Comber
team sitting fourth in the league. Reports before
the game suggested that Carnmoney were defensively
sound with little goal threat and that if Comber
could nick the first goal they should go on
to win the game. This was exactly how it turned
out. Carnmoney defended in numbers but showed
little attacking threat. The all important first
goal for Comber arrived after only 7 minutes
when Josh Halliday followed up a Wilson shot
to open the scoring. Carnmoney continued to
defend well despite the early setback and Comber
were keen to get another as quickly as possible
to put the game effectively beyond the home
team. Little football was played and Comber
toiled for a second which eventually arrived
5 minutes before the break with Wilson scoring
after some good work by Clifford who had pounced
on a rare defensive error.
In the second half Comber started to play a
bit more football and were rewarded with three
further goals. The first saw Clifford score
from his usual two yards after following up
a shot from Wilson who was having a fine match.
Wilson then got himself a second when he headed
home a Hanna corner when left unmarked in the
box. Scoring was completed when the home keeper
who had made some good stops managed to fumble
a Hanna free kick and watched in horror as it
crept across the line. Near the end Wilson had
the opportunity to complete his hat trick when
set free but after rounding the keeper was unfortunate
to see his left foot strike rebound off the
post and to safety.
