East Antrim Youth League
Comber Rec 2 : 1 Ballysillan
Parkway
Saturday 13th October 2007
Comber played host to Ballysillan at Parkway
in what turned out to be a very competitive
encounter. Before the game the players were
reminded that the previous match against Barn,
when they earned a very credible draw, was gone
and that Ballysillan were not to be underestimated.
Unfortunately it seemed that this was quickly
forgotten and Comber appeared lacklustre for
most of the first period. The slow start by
the team was evident and Ballysillan created
a number of opportunities before eventually
taking the lead on 15 minutes. Comber were opened
up not for the first time and the Ballysillan
forward tucked expertly past Hackett. This at
least generated some kind of reasponse from
the home side who got themselves back on level
terms when a Wilson cross from the right was
squeezed in at the far post by the onrushing
Clifford. Despite being level Comber continued
to struggle and by half time seemed somewhat
disjointed.
Glad to be going in level the Comber team were
reminded at half time that if they were to win
things would have to improve and quickl! Thankfully
this time the boys took on board the warning
and came out for the second half a much different
side. Ballysillan were on the back foot for
much of the second period with Comber guilty
of squandering a number of very good chances.
With 10 minutes remaining Comber scored the
decisive goal. A clearing header was picked
up by Hanna who played Halliday clear. With
the keeper advancing Halliday lobbed the ball
over the keepers head and into the goal.
The second half performance was enough and
Comber just about deserved the points however
this was a warning to all involved never to
underestimate any team.
