Comber Rec 13 : 2 Upper Ardoyne
Parkway
Saturday 29nd September 2007
Comber Under 13s enjoyed the use of the Parkway
pitch and facilities for the first time and
took full advantage by following up last week’s
emphatic win with more of the same against Upper
Ardoyne. If anything this was a more comfortable
victory with the match effectively over after
8 minutes!
Comber took the lead after 35 seconds when Simon
Hanna collected a through ball after evading
the offside trap and finished low to the left
of the helpless keeper. After 2 minutes it was
two when Nathan Clifford scored the first of
his five goals with a tap in at the far post
after a cross from Hanna. Comber had to wait
another 6 minutes before scoring again through
Clifford when he finished well although there
was a hint of offside about the goal. At this
point Comber seemed to think they had done enough
and provided Upper Ardoyne with a bit of encouragement
when a number of mistakes right through the
middle of the park allowed Ardoyne to score
past a helpless Hackett. This woke the home
side up again and they added a further 4 to
their tally before the break. These goals coming
through Hanna, Wilson and two from Clifford.
The second half continued much as the first.
Clifford opened the scoring after expertly controlling
a McCready through ball and finishing well.
Hanna then scored a header before taking an
excellent free kick which was finished at the
back post by Magee. Upper Ardoyne, to their
credit, continued to work hard despite the ever
increasing score line and were rewarded by scoring
an excellent goal which left substitute keeper
Rossbotham with no chance. Comber returned to
scoring ways when Hanna latched onto a fine
through ball from Wilson and delicately chipped
the keeper for number 11. The rout was completed
with two further goals from Wilson.
This was a match were Comber did all that was
asked of them and credit must go to all boys
involved. In a match such as this it is easy
for everyone to forget their roles and to push
forward to score but on this occasion Comber
held their shape throught the 80 minutes.
This weeks game will be a much tighter affair
against league leaders. If Comber are to challenge
for league honours this season this will be
a game that they can ill afford to loose.
