Comber put on a fighting display but in the end lost to a very strong Carrick side which is still well in contention for the league title. In the first half Carrick started more brightly than Comber and applied most of the pressure however after a shaky start Comber came into the game and managed to ensure that most of the play was confined to the middle third without making any clear chances themselves. Carrick took the lead on 20 minutes when a low shot to Hackett’s right appeared to bobble over his hand and into the goal.
At half time Comber 1.0 down were still confident of getting something out of the game and it was clear that the next goal was going to be vital. It so nearly came to Comber! Pressing from the start of the period, Comber were marginally on top when 10 minutes their chance came. Hanna, free for the first time on the edge of the box, fired in a shot which looked to all involved to be heading straight into the roof of the net. Unfortunately for the Comber boys it rebounded back of the bar and just avoided the reach of the on rushing Clifford. The disappointment was to be compounded only a few minutes later when Carrick scored their second and put the game out of Comber’s reach. In the last few minutes a mix up from a corner resulted in a very soft third.
Although defeated 3.0 the Comber boys put on a good performance with the exception of the first 5 or 10 minutes and could count themselves unfortunate to have lost by a three goal margin.
