East Antrim Youth League Comber 3 : 5 Barn United
Park Way - Council Pitch
Saturday 9th February 2008
Comber started the game with high hopes of
denting Barn’s title ambitions having
been one of only two clubs to manage to take
any points from the league leaders this season.
In the first game the teams shared eight goals
and on this occasion eight goals were also shared
however Barn took all three points with a 5.3
victory.
Comber again playing in the 3.5.1.1 formation
which they have favoured in recent weeks took
the game to Barn from the off. They quickly
found themselves a goal behind however when,
after clearing the danger, the ball was pumped
back into the home penalty area and Patmore
through injury was slow to get out and played
the opposing forwards onside. This allowed the
Barn front men time and space to open the scoring.
Comber hit back immediately when a Hanna through
ball found Clifford who shrugged off the last
defender and scored expertly from a tight angle.
No sooner were the teams level when Barn went
ahead again, this time from a well worked move
from an attacking throw. Again Comber fought
back and were on level terms soon afterwards
through a Hanna goal. At this point with only
5 minutes of the first half remaining Comber
were well on top and had the league leaders
on the rack however they just could not find
the goal to give them the lead at the break.
Clifford had an outstanding opportunity, placing
the ball wide when having only the keeper to
beat then Hanna was clearly brought down in
the box however when the referee whistled it
was not for a penalty but for half time!
Credit to Barn as they came out for the second
half a stronger and seemingly more determined
outfit and again went into the lead. Not to
be out done Comber replied again through Hanna
who got onto the end of an excellent Walker
free kick. The fourth and decisive break for
Barn came when Comber stopped to claim for a
handball in the middle of the field which wasn’t
given and the sharp Barn forwards played on
to put their team 4.3 up. When this was made
5.3 shortly after the game was up for the battling
Comber side.
