Under 13's Match Report

Friendly
Antrim Forum
Saturday 5th January 2008

In the absence of a league fixture Comber took the opportunity to play a friendly against Antrim Rovers at a snow-free Antrim Forum.  Unlike most games this was one of three halves!
In the first thirty minutes Comber fielded a side with a view to next season. All starting will be available to the under 13s next year with a number of those involved currently representing Comber at under 11 level. The team did extremely well throughout against a physically bigger Antrim side and were unfortunate to concede a goal in the last minute of the thirty minute period.  Special mention must be given to Connor Black who had an outstanding game at the back and looked extremely comfortable throughout.
In the second period Comber introduced four of the current under 13 players and it was Andrew McClure who scored for Comber 10 minutes into the period with an excellent finish after bustling the Antrim centre back off the ball. During this period Comber showing a number of positional changes lost a bit of shape and struggled to match the hard working Antrim side. Despite the best efforts of Rossbotham who made at least one excellent save Comber went down 2.1 in the middle third.
The final period saw a number of players return to the fray and in an even contest Comber went down to the odd goal in three. Comber’s goal in this period came from the penalty spot with Michael Crooks getting up to convert after having been brought down in the box.
All in all a good work out on a day when most teams found their matches postponed.
