East Antrim Youth League Comber Rec 2 : 3 Triangle
Valley Park
Saturday 24th November 2007
This was a hard fought game played out by two evenly matched teams and one in which Comber can feel somewhat unlucky to have got nothing from. Comber got off to the perfect start with Wilson scoring after only 17 seconds! Picking up the ball directly from the centre he went full pace at the Triangle defence, weaving past a number of defenders before firing a shot high into the roof of the Triangle net. Unfortunately Comber were still celebrating only a minute later when Triangle equalised. A soft goal and one which could and should have been avoided. For the remainder of the first half Comber played some outstanding football and had a number of chances to go into the lead before finally doing so in the last minute of the half when Clifford headed home from close range. This was nothing more than Comber deserved given their neat flowing football. During this period the Comber players deserved great credit for not only their football but for keeping their cool and continuing to play as a clearly frustrated Triangle side decided to take the “kick everything that moves” approach. During this time the referee booked at least two Triangle players but it remains a mystery how they managed to keep all eleven on the pitch!
The second half was an entirely different affair with Triangle concentrating on football and being in control for large periods. After 10 minutes Triangle equalised and it became clear that one more would win the game for either side. Triangle looked increasingly likely however Halliday had half a chance for Comber before Triangle scored the winner in the last minute.
Too many basic errors by Comber cost them dearly in a match in which they were clearly good enough against what is always a strong Triangle side.
