East Antrim Youth League
Comber
Rec 3 : 2 Barn
Utd
Coach Road
Saturday 13th October 2007
Following last weeks straightforward win at
Ballysillan, Comber started this match level
on points with Barn, with lots of confidence.
Immediately from kickoff Comber pushed forward
putting Barn on the backfoot with Wilson and
Manley very lively up front. Comber got their
reward when Whiteside ran into the box fron
the right and fired a low shot just inside the
post to make it 1-0.
More pressure followed and Manley put Comber
two up when his strike in the box passed the
Barn keeper who was proving difficult to beat
as she had thwarted earlier Comber attacks with
ease. This early lead for the home team seemed
to waken Barn up and they stepped up their game.
They were particularly dangerous on the left
wing as they went close to scoring many times
with their captain playing very well and eventually
scored just before the break.
Early in the second half both sides had lots
of attacking play with chances going astray
at either end. Barn eventually did score when
they were awarded a dubious free kick on the
edge of the box. The captain stepped up and
scored with an accurate shot just inside the
right post. Comber to their credit didn't let
their heads drop and worked very hard for what
was to be the winning goal. Childs, who had
an outstanding game, robbed the Barn keeper
after a mix up and poked the ball over the line
for the winning goal and a deserved home victory.
Praise must go to both teams for a exciting
game played in good spirits with both teams
fully committed to win the game. I have heard
since from spectators that they had never seen
a more entertaining game of Under 11 football.
Well done lads!!!
