Comber entered the game against the team, they threw away a four goal lead against a few weeks earlier in the same competition. Everyone involved in the club knew it was going to be close. Comber fielded their strongest possible team bringing back the reliable Black, who had recovered from an arm injury.
The Comber support was encouraged early on by the positive way their boys started the game. They were excellent. The Whole team were solid, full of energy aad effort. Both Millar and Whiteside worked well together sending crosses which both Wilson, and then Walker with a header failed to convert. Barn too had their chances, in particular their number 10 who ran well with the ball and hit in super corners.
Manley was outstanding in the Comber goal, saving certain goals on four occasions to deny the Barn attacks. Burgess and Black were great at the back, blocking and clearing the ball when needed. At halftime it was 0-0, with Comber certainly having the better chances.
In the second half the Elliott Wilson show took over. With his blistering pace he left his marker near the halfway line ran on amd slotted the ball past the oncoming Barn keeper to put Comber one up. It was nothing more than the boys in yellow derserved. The boys held their shape, with Burgess playng with great effort. The Barn forward then had a great chance to equalise but Manley made another great save, again the ball hitting the post. Maybe it was Combers' night.
Marshall and Walker worked the ball well then fed Wilson, who did what he does best. Yet again he had the pace to run with the ball and easily score from a tight angle. Comer were now 2-0 up, but were taking nothing for granted, remembering a few weeks earlier. The Comber midfield and defence were faultless and eventually Wilson got his chance for his hat-trick when he picked the ball up just in the Barn half. With a Barn defender on either side he sprinted into the box and yip, once again found the back of the net to seal his hat-trick. A Great display from the young Wilson.
Comber saw out the rest of the game fairly comfortably to seal the win, and definately a memorable victory. Thanks must go the great support the boys recieved from parents and friends of the club at the game, but all credit must go to the boys themselves who were awesome in their effort and commitment on the pitch. Well done to Elliott Wilson who was awarded the referees 'Man of the match' award.
A great night and brilliant performance to end the season. Well done lads!!
