Bryansburn Tournament 2007
Bangor Sortsplex Under 11s - Sunday 25th March
Striking partners Josh Halliday and Calum Shaw
In the opening league format the boys faced Ards Youth, Bryansburn 'A', Loughside 'A' and Bangor Swifts. The Rec lads qualified from this group with three draws and one defeat, conceding only one goal on the way.
In the knockout stage a 1-0 win over Bryansburn 'B' put the team into the semi-final. The only goal of the game coming from Calum Shaw, a close range shot after some good work from Michael Crooks.
The semi-final against Bryansburn 'tens' was a tense affair, the Rec having most of the play but failing to take their chances. The match was settled with the Rec winning 3-0 on penalty kicks. Jamie Maginnis, Adam Childs and Adam Rowan scoring from the spot to send a jubilant team into the final.
In the final the Rec faced tough opposition in the form of Lisburn league side Loughside 'B'. From the whistle the Rec looked more organised and determined and deservedly took the lead through James McVicker. Before half-time it was 2-0, this time a goal worthy of any cup final. A dead ball free-kick from James McVicker hit the back of the net like a rocket, giving the Loughside keeper no chance. Whilst Loughside lost their discipline the Rec lads took complete control and played out the remainder of the game never looking in any danger of losing.
A delighted Comber Rec coach, Gordon Montgomery, said afterwards that "the win reflected the progress being made within the Comber Rec mini soccer school and the entire youth set up at the club."
